HHS GRAD TACKLES APPALACHIAN TRAIL AUGUST 2008 - Jennifer Pharr Davis, a 2001 grad and tennis standout, set the women's record for the fastest supported female through hike of the Appalachian Trail. Covering 300 miles in her final week - about a third of it running - she completed the 2,175 mile train in 57 days, 8 hours and 35 minutes - 30 days faster than any other woman in history. In fact there have been only four men that have hiked it faster. She set out on her journey June 20 from Mt. Katahdin, Maine with the support of her recently married husband Brew Davis, who provided her support and supplies at road crossings. Davis undertook the hike to honor the memory of murder victims Meredith Emerson and John and Irene Bryant, who were killed in public forests last year.
