HHS BAND TO TAKE NATIONAL STAGE May 2007 - The HHS symphonic and concert bands have accepted an invitation to play at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts next May in Washington, DC. Based on their impressive performance last year in Boston, director Fran Shelton ('77) was encouraged by one of the judges to apply for the prestegious Washington DC Band and Orchestra festival. On May 3, 2008, each band will play outdoor shows near the Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials. On May 5, the bands will perform a combined show on stage at the Kennedy Center. "It's the largest so far for this band," Shelton said. "You're talking Carnegie, you're talking Boston, you're talking Atlanta. This is the national concert hall in the country." The HHS band is among five high schools selected nationwide for the 2008 festival and the first ever from North Carolina to make the cut. One hundred students will go on the trip at a cost of $85000 - or $850 per student. If you would like to support the band with a tax deductible donation, please send it to the Henderson County Education Foundation, PO Box 1267, Hendersonville, NC, 28793. Make your check out to HCEF and designate it for the HHS Band DC trip.
