HHSAA John Brooks Williams Memorial Scholarship
The Hendersonville High School Alumni Association John Brooks Williams Memorial Scholarship was formed in 2005 after the receipt of a $50,000 donation from the estate of Mr. Williams, a 1938 HHS graduate. This scholarship was established as a $1000, two-year renewable scholarship presented to a graduating senior of HHS who has shown academic potential, personal motivation and high goals for their future.
Early in 2006, the HHSAA received an additional $50,000 donation from the John Brooks Williams estate. This donation allowed the HSSAA to increase the scholarship to $2000 per year, renewable for a second year upon satisfactory completion of the first year studies.
Brooks earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from UNC (CH) and an MBA from Harvard. He continued his education with a Law degree from Columbia University. Brooks was in Houston, Texas for a number of years where he successfully owned and operated Markel Steel Company. After his death in 2004, Mr. Williams left most of his sizable estate to various educational entities, including Blue Ridge Community College and the HHSAA.
The HSSAA is most grateful to Mr. Brooks Williams and his executor, Mr. John H. Bauer, for this opportunity to serve the higher educational needs of the graduates of Hendersonville High School.

It is a $1250 per year, four year renewable scholarship given to a graduating senior who has attended HHS for three consecutive years and demonstrated solid academic performance along with participation in school activities and community service.
Once again the HHSAA is extremely grateful to Mr. Brooks Williams and his executor, Mr. John H. Bauer for allowing us to assist so many HHS graduates in their pursuit of higher education.
